Kvarner / otok Krk :

KVARNER is an area that, due to its heterogeneity of climate and vegetation; its combination of shores, islands and highlands, architecture and culture; and its proximity to several European tourist-generating regions, has been developing tourism for aruond 160 years.
The longest tourist tradition in Croatia, the year-round range of varied programmmes and the development of unique forms of tourism, constitute a variety of tourist attractions which meet the needs of present day tourists, with all their different requirements, throughout the four seasons.
Along with quality accommodation, a rich gastronomic range and many sports programmes, numerous events enriching the tourists' sojourn are also held in the Kvarner region.

THE ISLAND OF KRK
The island of Krk, located in the Kvarner Bay, with an area of 405.78km2 is the largest of the 1,185 Adriatic islands (alongside with the island Cres).
Krk is an island of kind, warm-hearted and hospitable people. There are almost 60 settlements and villages, each unique and different. The island is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Croatia, its leading seaside resorts being the towns of Krk, Baška, Punat, Malinska, Njivice, Omišalj, Vrbnik, although we must point out the island's interior for those seeking peace and unspoilt nature.The island offers high quality accommodation in private rooms, apartments and villas, in three and four-star hotels, as well as in campsites, some of which are naturist ones.
The island has been inhabited for over 10,000 years. It was called "Insula Aurea" - "The Golden Island" by the Romans because of its natural wealth. It is also the cradle of Glagolitic literacy, and the oldest inscribed monument in Old Croatian and in Glagolitic script, the Baška Tablet, was found near Baška. The island of Krk is definitely an island of a rich cultural and historical heritage.
Krk is also an island of an extremely rich flora and fauna (over 1,300 species), with over 220 different species of birds (the natural habitat of the almost exinct Griffon Vulture). Its waters are frequently visited by the endangered plain and bottle nosed dolphin, so if you happen to be on a boat in the local waters of Krk, don't forget to bring your camera along. Krk has an ornithological, botanical and zoological reserve, as well as a forestry reserve.
Did you know that Krk is the closest Central European island ? In just a few hours you can be relaxing in a secluded cove, on a beach, or enjoying our world known wine "Vrbnicka žlahtina" and fish specialities, the tasty lamb or other delicacies prepared with the island's extra virgin olive oil. You can go on a sightseeing tour of the many historical monuments and sites or simply admire the rich plant and animal world, explore the numerous bays and coves or just lie back and enjoy the crystal clear sea. If you are looking for sports and recreational activites, Krk has plenty to offer. There are miles of marked hiking and biking trails, there's wind surfing, diving, hunting, fishing, or for an adrenalin rush try free climbing or paragliding. Maybe you'd like to enjoy the nightlife or just get a good night's sleep - whatever it is, Krk is truly an island with something for everyone, whether young or old, for children and for grown-ups, for families, for those in love and those not …
Krk has a Mediterranean climate with over 2,500 hours of sunshine p.a. The continental influence is gentle, so the climate is mainly pleasant throughout the year. If you are only interested in swimming, the bathing season generally starts in the first half of May and ends in mid October, but for the braver the season lasts longer. Don't be surprised if you come upon the odd swimmer at the beginning of November. If you decide to come in winter, early spring or late autumn, we will gladly recommend one of the hotels with an indoor heated pool at a bargain price.
Don't forget Krk's magnificent, 1,430m long bridge, connecting it with the mainland, which means that upon leaving the highway from the direction of Ljubljana, Trieste or Zagreb, you soon arrive direct on the island. After breakfast at home and a slow, unhurried start, you'll find yourself enjoying lunch in one of the numerous wine cellars or restaurants. As the island also has an airport, you can arrive from most European countries in about an hour. The Rijeka railway station is only 30km from Krk. If you arrive by train or plane and require a professional and economical transfer to your destination, we are at your disposal.
